636 EllingBuffet
The Cassina 636 Elling Buffet cabinet, designed by the legendary Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, embodies the essence of the neoplasticism spatial concept. Originally created in 1919, this stunning sideboard was used in various interior design projects before the original model was destroyed in a fire. In 1951, Rietveld supervised its reconstruction for an exhibition, which stands as a testament to its timeless design.
Today, Cassina produces this iconic storage unit for the first time in its historic carpentry in Meda, in collaboration with the designer’s heirs. The structure of the cabinet features pure lines that create a grid based on a structural core, with surfaces, drawers, and storage units added to complete the design.
The virtually continuous supporting grid is dynamically contrasted with slats that exalt their boldness towards the exterior. This unique design detail lends the piece an undeniable visual impact, while maintaining its overall simplicity.
The Cassina 636 Elling Buffet cabinet is a true masterpiece, designed with a timeless aesthetic that seamlessly blends form and function. It is a perfect example of Rietveld’s dedication to creating beautiful and functional furniture that can stand the test of time.
